Flipped Classroom

Wacom's interactive pen displays and tablet products let you create and communicate just as if you were sitting right next to your student.

The flipped classroom model allows teachers to spend more personal coaching time in the classroom. Though this model is about more than just creating videos for students to watch, the creation of materials is still a key element.

One challenge is how to create content for students to view and study outside the classroom or individually at their own pace. The experience should be equivalent to a well-executed, interactive class lecture. Rather than just rotating through static slides with prepared material and a voiceover, the discussion and content should flow naturally and build as it goes. Seeing math equations actually worked out or ideas and concepts diagrammed as they are explained aids comprehension.

Wacom’s interactive pen displays and tablet products let you create and communicate just as if you were sitting right next to your student. You may choose whiteboarding or annotation software, based on what fits your needs. Integrate prepared material with notes, annotations and diagrams. Capturing it all while you present helps you preserve your thought process as well as the information you're trying to present.

DTU Interactive Pen Displays

DTU-2231 front

Wacom’s interactive pen displays are the most intuitive products for creating media to be used as part of the flipped classroom model. You have all the interactivity that an interactive whiteboard offers, but you can control and create everything from the convenience of your desk. You work directly on the pen display’s screen to work with content or add handwritten notes, comments and diagrams.

  • Working on the display’s surface is so intuitive and easy that little training is needed. Even novices can effectively use it to create content.
  • Because of the freedom the pen provides, you can work through equations and graph them as you explain them. The students then get to see and understand the thought process step-by-step in addition to hearing the explanation.
  • Even when starting with prepared material, additional information can be added spontaneously to accommodate the free flow of ideas that occur when presenting.
  • The pen can be used to underscore or highlight items for added emphasis.
  • The pen displays can also be used in class to help guide a discussion, whether to an individual student or the entire class.
  • Wacom's interactive pen displays are software-neutral. They can be used with any of your favorite software applications.

Bamboo Tablets

Bamboo Capture
Bamboo tablets are also a good choice for helping create media to be used as part of the flipped classroom model. Because you are not working directly on the display, they are not as intuitive as our interactive pen displays, but they do offer an economical and very portable solution. Bamboo tablets are pen input products, so you derive all of the benefits of using a pen with your digital content - adding handwritten notes, comments and diagrams to effectively communicate ideas and information to your students.

Wacom offers two configurations of tablets for content development: wired and wireless.

  • Working on the tablet is natural. It mimics communicating ideas by sketching on paper or on a whiteboard or blackboard.
  • The pen allows you to communicate visually. Solve math, physics, chemistry equations step by step manner as you explain each step in the process. Students’ comprehension is improved because they get to see and understand the thought process as it organically develops.
  • Even when starting with prepared material, additional information can be added spontaneously to accommodate the free flow of ideas that occur when presenting.
  • The pen can be used to add emphasis by underscoring or highlighting.
  • Bamboo tablets can also be used in class to help guide a discussion.
  • The tablets are small and light, so they can be moved to wherever is convenient for the content creator.
  • The tablets are software-neutral. They can be used with any of your favorite software applications.
