New Intuos4 Surface Overlays Available for Small, Medium and Large Tablets
When compared to previous versions of the Intuos pen tablets, some Intuos4 owners tell us that their pen nibs are wearing faster than expected. We apologize for this inconvenience. To address this we’ve introduced a new active area surface overlay that’s now available as an accessory at https://direct.wacom.com/. This overlay surface is currently available on the Intuos4 small, medium and large tablets.
Our customers tell us that surface feel is personal. If you purchased an Intuos4 tablet before October 2010 and prefer the pen nibs to last longer then try this new smoother surface. If you appreciate the near paper-like feel of the original Intuos4, you may want to continue using your current surface. The difference between them is the frequency of nib replacement versus the slightly more tactile feel of the original surface.
As with traditional media such as pencil, charcoal, and pastels, any tool or pen used on a textured surface will wear after continuous use, including the Intuos4 nibs. This is normal as the nib is intentionally designed to be softer than the surface sheet so as to avoid wear on the sheets. This wear occurs faster or slower depending on the smoothness of the surface, hours of usage, the type of nib and the amount of pressure applied during usage.
