Design

In graphic design, a Wacom pen helps you bring out your best in a digital work environment.

Offline Concepting with Inkling

When inspiration strikes, grab your sketchbook and your Inkling—and digitally capture your designs and concepts as you sketch on paper.

Where does Inkling fit in my workflow?

Wherever you are when ideas happen, simply clip the receiver onto the edge of your drawing paper and sketch with your Inkling pen. As you capture your sketch with ink on paper, the Inkling receiver also captures a digital likeness of every stroke. Share your work by email or transfer it to your computer to import into your favorite creative software for further development. Inkling is best used at the front end of a concepting session, in a mobile environment, or anywhere you don’t have access to your Intuos and computer.

What should I expect?

Inkling delivers a rough sketch or likeness of your ink drawing. Variations in line position can vary up to 2.5mm, depending on your drawing style and fluidness of ink lines. Once back on your computer and imported into Autodesk or Adobe applications, you can easily re-sketch your concept and fully develop the image with all the precision of your pressure-sensitive pen tablet.

What about software compatibility?

The Inkling lets you create layers as you sketch, and the files can be imported into Adobe® Photoshop®, Adobe Illustrator®, Autodesk® SketchBook® Pro or Autodesk SketchBook® Designer. Or use the included Inkling Sketch Manager software to create layers after your drawing is done. The tool is made to bridge the gap between rough idea generation and the refined environment in your creative software, where you can work with the accuracy of your Wacom pen tablet.

Who’s using an Inkling?

Inkling has become popular across a range of artistic disciplines, but universally appeals to anyone who is concepting. Comic artists, storyboarders, product designers, agency creative directors, animators, artists – the list goes on and on. In most cases, the Inkling becomes an exciting tool for mobile concepting, and when brought back to the computer environment, can easily be refined for other purposes.
