Wacom® Cintiq® 21UX Receives Coveted red dot Award
Vancouver, WA - June 6, 2006 - Wacom's Cintiq 21UX interactive pen display has been awarded the internationally recognized "red dot" for superior design quality and innovation by the Design Zentrum Nordrhein Westfalen, home to the red dot design museum in Essen, Germany. Factors for the independent jury's decision on selecting a winner include degree of innovation, functionality, form quality, ergonomics and emotional attachment.A Winning Design
The design of the Cintiq 21UX reflects Wacom's philosophy to develop intuitive interface solutions that provide a natural and harmonious interaction with the computer. Developed as a tool to express creativity and speed production, the Cintiq 21UX had to meet high design standards and, at the same time, fulfill the professional requirements of digital content creators working in a variety of applications. The in-house design process was supported by the industrial designers of RiskyBrand and involved a global team from Wacom's offices in Japan, Europe and the USA.
"A great deal of thought and hard work went into the design of the Cintiq 21UX and our latest interactive pen display is a deserving candidate for this honor," said Michael Marcum, Director of Product Management at Wacom. "The red dot award is a testament to Wacom's ability to build innovative products that meet the needs and trends of the professional creative community."
Key Design Features
The Cintiq 21UX's product design and aesthetics combine an impressive 21.3" screen area with a flat bezel, allowing designers, photographers, artists and others to incorporate broad pen strokes over the display without their hand hitting an edge. With a resolution of 1,600 x 1,200 pixels, 24-bit color depth and an accurate ICC profile for color management, the Cintiq 21UX's wide viewing angle provides a true-color environment, crucial to digital content creators. The specially coated, glare-free LCD reduces reflection and the flat bezel reduces parallax, enabling creative users to be much more precise when working with highly detailed applications.
The interactive pen display features a high-end, low-profile industrial design in a stylish anthracite grey. Its display stand is removable and adjustable, allowing the tablet to be rotated easily through +/- 180 degrees. It can also be tilted into multiple positions from 10 to 65 degrees (horizontal to vertical) which exactly replicates the traditional way of working when moving a piece of paper on a drawing board. These design features provide comfort, control and flexibility for increased productivity.
Another critical key to the Cintiq 21UX is the integration of Intuos®3 (Wacom's desktop pen tablet and winner of the 2005 red dot award) functionality, including the ExpressKeys™, Touch Strips and Grip Pen. The ExpressKeys and Touch Strips, easily accessible on either side of the display, can be individually programmed and configured to minimize the dependence on the keyboard for uninterrupted workflow. The patented, cordless, battery-free Grip Pen offers interoperability between the Intuos3 and Cintiq 21UX and features 1,024 levels of pressure-sensitivity and a programmable DuoSwitch™ for the best in digital exploration and ease-of-use.
