About this release

The Wacom Pen Driver for Tablet PC is distributed by Wacom free of charge to end-users that own a Tablet PC. Wacom does not provide technical support for this driver.

The Wacom Pen Driver adds support for the Wintab application interface to Tablet PCs that use Wacom pen technology. This enables the Tablet PC and pen to support pressure-sensitive graphics applications, such as Adobe Photoshop and Corel Painter. The driver also enables you to adjust the pen tip pressure sensitivity and to program the side switch of the Tablet PC pen for a wide range of alternative settings and functions.

Important: The Wacom Pen Driver software will only support Tablet PC pens of Wacom Penabled Tablet PCs. To determine if your Tablet PC is Wacom Penabled, visit our Web site at http://www.wacom-components.com/english/partner/index.html

If you experience a compatibility problem when running the Wacom driver, first refer to the Known Issues and Workarounds section in this Read Me.

If you don't find the answer there, check Wacom's web site at http://www.wacom.com/tabletpc/ for frequently asked questions and answers. If a driver update is available you can try installing it. If you encounter a problem that is not documented, you can submit a bug report at http://www.wacom.com/tabletpc/driver.cfm

Driver installation

1. Click on the Download link and save the file to your computer. If you are upgrading from a previous Wacom driver version, uninstall that driver first for best results.

2. Temporarily disable your antivirus software and Vista's Windows Defender. (To disable or enable Windows Defender, go to Start - All Programs - Windows Defender. Then select Tools - Options. Under Administrator options [at the very bottom], select or clear the Use Windows Defender check box, and then click Save. If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.)

3. Double-click on the downloaded file to launch the installer and follow the prompts.

4. If prompted, restart the Tablet PC by clicking the Ok button.

5. Re-enable your antivirus software and Vista's Windows Defender.

After you have installed the driver software, be sure to open the Wacom Pen Settings control panel and Help to learn how to customize your Wacom-based Tablet PC pen. To open the Wacom Pen Settings control panel or Help, click on the Windows Start button, select All Programs, and then choose Wacom Pen Settings or Help from the Wacom shortcut options.

Known issues and workarounds

The Vista Flicks and Press-and-hold-to-right-click features are disabled in most graphics applications (all that use the Wintab API). This is a workaround to improve drawing performance in these applications when those features are on.

There is no pressure sensitivity in Journal and other Vista Ink features when both Flicks and Press-and-hold-to-right-click are disabled in the Vista "Pen and Input Devices" control panel. This is a workaround for spurious double-clicks issued by Vista under that setting.

To remove the preferences file and restore all default settings, open Start - (All) Programs - Pen Tablet - Tablet Preference File Utility. Then select to remove the preferences file(s). You must authenticate yourself as an administrator to be able to remove all users' preferences.
