Step 1:
Start with a photo-- a self-portrait can be cool. Open it in Painter or Painter Classic, and get a sheet of digital tracing paper by selecting "Clone" from the file menu, selecting all and then deleting it. This gives you a piece of tracing paper you can turn on or off by tapping on the little square in the corner. (This image is from the EyeWire CD "Education & Teens").
