Our Sparks.
“At the beach in the early afternoon” by sammy
Wacom's Social Initiatives are driven by the sparks ignited by our team members, which is the reason why we work at Wacom. Since starting this initiative three years ago, we have noticed that our team members’ sparks are felt by those who work together with Wacom, whether it be our customers, partners, or communities. Your sparks are also what keep us motivated and help us seek out new challenges.
In the "Our Sparks." pages, we introduced the works created by our team members with the theme of their sparks. This time around, we would like to introduce two artworks by artists in Oiso Town, Kanagawa, Japan, where we have been working together to support the writing/drawing initiative.
The theme is "the charm of Oiso Town”. Their thoughts about the town and their passion for drawing, which is expressed through the artwork, have something in common with our team members’ sparks.
We are sharing two separate works of art. The second piece is called “At the beach in the early afternoon” by sammy.

About the artwork: Oiso is located at the center of Sagami Bay in Kanagawa, Japan. On a sunny day, Oiso offers a beautiful view of the Izu Peninsula, Boso Peninsula, Miura Peninsula, Izu Oshima, and Enoshima. I tried capturing the beautiful and relaxing ocean in my piece to reflect the feeling I experience during my walks along the beach.
Facing the girl is a Japanese Green Pigeon, a rare bird named Aobato. It is a cute yellow-green bird with a dainty appearance, but in reality, it is a sturdy bird that risks its life to drink seawater, even in bad weather. I expressed its strength through the sharp talons and the coloring of its feet.
The flower blooming by the sea is Hama-hirugao, which is the flower of Oiso Town. I drew it together with a child, hoping that the future of Oiso will be bright for our children. While there has been gloomy news abounding lately, such as infectious diseases, I find happiness in each day by seeing the beautiful sea and having a relaxing time at the beach. I hope my piece can inspire people to think about the small moments of happiness in our daily lives and make them feel delighted.
About the artist: sammy is an artist who likes to paint with watercolor. Using portable paints and small sketchbooks, she draws memories of her travels and records her life with her kids by focusing on things such as the food she ate, her kid wearing her favorite dress, and that peaceful moment when her kids are sleeping. She captures the precious moments in artwork during her busy days with kids. This was the second time she has created artwork digitally, having first participated in a digital painting workshop in Oiso Town in September 2022. This piece was created with Wacom One and CLIP STUDIO PAINT EX. She enjoyed trying a variety of brushes.
